I was channel surfing last night and decided to stick with VH1 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions. Looked like a good lineup…The Pretenders, U2, Buddy Guy. All performers I really like.

So B.B. King and Eric Clapton come out to induct Buddy Guy. And then, here he comes up on stage to accept his honor — bald. BALD. BALD. BALD. This is inconceivable to me. I just keep repeating, “What happenend to his hair?”

I have nothing against baldness. Nothing at all. But I’ve seen Buddy Guy twice in concert and he had plenty of hair. Hair like this (from July ’03):

And now he looks like this.

That’s a pretty big change, I’d say. And, honestly, I never realized how old he was before. He’s almost 70! I can see that now without all the hair distracting me. It’s not that I want him to hide his age. He’s earned the right to shave his head. It’s just going to take me a little bit of getting used to.
